Hair Transplant Cost 1

Hair Transplant Prices / Costs

Hair transplants can be life-changing for patients that choose to have this surgery and for a lot of patients, the question of the cost of the procedure still plays an important role in their decision making.

Hair transplant surgery doesn’t have to be expensive. Prices vary depending on the surgery requirements of the patient, as every patient is different with different areas that require treatment and so the price reflects this.

Typically, in the UK, a hair transplant can cost around £3,000 to £20,000. Of course, this is largely dependent on the needs of the patient as well as the clinic they go to. After all everyone has different levels of hair loss in different areas.

Pricing at the Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic starts from £3,000 for up to 1000 hairs.

Finance options are available. If you are interested, please ask us about these options or visit our hair transplant finance page.

How Much Does a Beard Transplant Cost?

A beard transplant can cost as little as £3,500 for very small areas and can also go up to the £6,500 mark when having to work on 2 cheeks that have little growth on them as the size of the surface area is rather large so does require a lot of grafts. An initial consultation with one our team is what we recommend in order to discuss not just costs, but the procedure and aftercare.

How Much Does an Eyebrow Transplant Cost?

An eyebrow transplant typically costs around £4,000. The range is typically £3,500 – £4,500 as the size of the surface area to cover means that the maximum graft numbers are typically around 800-1,000 for large cases and around 400-600 for smaller cases.

How Much Does a Hairline Hair Transplant Cost?

A hairline hair transplant typically costs around £4,500 for a very small hairline restoration and can go up to £5,500 for a more extensive area, which typically includes the temples.

How Much Does a Crown Hair Transplant Cost?

A crown hair transplant typically costs around £4,500 – £5,000 for a small to average crown restoration and can go up to £6,500 for a more extensive area, which typically is a large area of the crown and can also include a little bit of the bridge (middle of the head) in some cases.

500 grafts are typically on the lower end of the scale and are usually for very small eyebrow transplants as well as small scar transplants. The cost is usually around £3,000 – £3,500 depending on the amount of work involved.

1,000 grafts are typically used for large eyebrow transplants or a small patch on the beard or even a VERY small area on the temples just to give you an idea of the size of the surface area. The price for this is £4,000 – £4,500.

For thicker beard transplants and fuller hairlines, the cost typically ranges from £4,500 to £5,000, depending on the extent of the work required.

This is the average number of grafts required by most of our patients, typically for receding hairlines or crown restoration. The cost typically falls between £5,500 and £6,000.

For more significant hair loss, 2,500 grafts are often required to address multiple areas or a larger area needing both coverage and increased density. The cost typically falls between £6,000 and £6,500.

We advise a maximum of 3,000 grafts per procedure to protect the donor area, avoid overharvesting, and promote optimal healing and recovery. The cost typically ranges from £6,500 to £7,000.

A 4,000-graft hair transplant is ideal for addressing extensive hair loss and is performed in two stages to ensure optimal results. This approach prioritises the patient’s health and allows the donor area to heal effectively. The cost typically ranges from £9,500 to £10,000.

A 5,000-graft hair transplant is designed to treat substantial hair loss and is carried out in two stages. This method ensures optimal results while prioritising the patient’s well-being and providing adequate time for the donor area to heal. The cost typically falls between £11,000 and £12,000.

There are typically three different types of hair transplant surgery that is undertaken with their respective prices:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

The FUE method of hair transplantation involves the removing of healthy hair follicles from the donor area. These are extracted from the scalp and grafted onto the balding areas, which ensures that the hair can grow, covering the areas that are problematic for the sufferer.

This kind of treatment is one of the most popular types of hair transplantation method in the UK. Typically, the price of FUE can vary depending on which clinic you use. What is more, the price is dependent on the extent of the hair loss problem and how much work is needed to rectify the hair loss issue.

Many hair loss sufferers can expect to pay around £3,500 – £6,000 for this procedure. Of course, this pricing is approximate as each patient will have different needs. As a general guideline, this kind of treatment will cost about £1.89 to £3.99 per graft/hair follicle. This is one of the most affordable kinds of transplant.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

Hair replacement surgery can also be undertaken via the FUT method. This is where the hair is taken from a donor area and grafted onto the scalp in ‘strips’. This allows the hair to grow under the strips and can be a permanent solution to hair loss problems. As the donor region is healthy, the hair can grow back in its place.

The onset of FUE transplantation means that this kind of surgery is deemed more invasive, but it is a cheaper solution to hair transplant surgery. On average, this surgery can cost over £4,000 in total which varies depending on the extent of the surgery needed. The cost per hair follicle is around £2 to £5. We do not recommend this method as it leaves a large scar on the client’s scalp.

Direct Hair Implant Technique (DHI)

The DHI hair transplant technique is the latest in cutting edge hair transplant technology. With this new innovative technology, hair is encouraged to grow, this is done by extracting living hair follicles and implants them in the balding area.

This ensures that hair growth can be stimulated in the best possible way. This surgery can cost in the region of £6,000. Typically, the cost of this treatment per follicle is roughly £2 to £6.

It is very similar to the FUE method of hair transplant.

Hair Transplant Cost and Prices in the UK

For most patients, cost is one of the first questions they ask, and rightly so. A hair transplant is a significant investment, and understanding what drives the price helps you compare clinics fairly and plan with confidence.

At Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic, prices start from £3,000 and typically range up to £12,000 for larger procedures. Most patients fall somewhere between £4,500 and £7,000, depending on graft count and the treatment area.

Every patient is different. The number of grafts you need depends on your hair loss pattern, your donor density, your hair type, and the result you want. That is why we recommend a free consultation before quoting a final price. There are no surprises on surgery day.

Finance options are available. If you would like to spread the cost, ask us at your consultation or visit our hair transplant finance page.

What Affects the Cost of a Hair Transplant?

No two hair transplants are identical, and the price reflects that. Here are the main factors our surgeons consider when working out your personalised quote.

Number of Grafts Required

Graft count is the single biggest driver of cost. A graft is a small cluster of one to four hair follicles. The more grafts needed to cover your thinning area with natural density, the longer the procedure takes and the higher the cost. A small hairline touch-up may need 800 grafts. A full frontal and crown restoration may need 2,500 or more.

Your Stage of Hair Loss

Surgeons grade male hair loss using the Norwood Scale, which runs from Stage 1 (minimal recession) to Stage 7 (extensive loss across the scalp). Your Norwood stage determines roughly how many grafts are needed, and also whether a full restoration is surgically possible at all.

Norwood Stage Typical Hair Loss Pattern Grafts Required Suitability
Stage 1 to 2 Early temple recession, minimal loss 500 to 1,500 Excellent candidate
Stage 3 Deeper temple recession, early crown thinning 1,500 to 2,500 Excellent candidate
Stage 4 Significant frontal loss and defined crown patch 2,500 to 4,000 Good candidate
Stage 5 Loss bridging front and crown, large surface area 4,000 to 6,000 Suitable, staged approach likely
Stage 6 Extensive loss across front, crown and bridge ~10,000 Partial restoration only — see note below
Stage 7 Only a narrow horseshoe of hair remaining ~12,000 Not suitable for transplant — see note below

Why donor supply is the limiting factor at Norwood 6 and 7: The donor area — the permanent band of hair at the back and sides of the scalp — can typically yield around 7,000 grafts before extraction begins to cause visible thinning of the donor zone itself. A Norwood 6 patient needs roughly 10,000 grafts for a full restoration, and a Norwood 7 patient needs around 12,000. In both cases the demand significantly exceeds what the donor area can safely provide.

This is why we do not perform hair transplants on Norwood 7 patients. At Norwood 6, a partial restoration targeting the frontal zone only may be possible, but we discuss this honestly at consultation so patients can make a fully informed decision. Patients at earlier stages, where graft requirements fall well within the donor supply, are the best candidates for transplant surgery and can expect complete, natural-looking results.

Your consultation includes a thorough donor area assessment so we can give you an accurate picture of what is realistically achievable for your specific degree of loss.

Hair Type and Texture

Hair texture affects how many grafts are needed for a given result. Coarser, thicker hair provides more visual coverage per graft than fine hair, so patients with thicker hair may need fewer grafts to achieve the same density. Afro-textured and curly hair requires specialist surgical technique, and our surgeons have experience across all hair types.

Surgeon Expertise

There is a meaningful difference between a surgeon-led procedure and a technician-led one. At Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic, all procedures are performed by GMC-registered surgeons with extensive hair restoration experience. The hairline design, graft angle, and donor area management are all performed by the surgeon directly, not delegated to non-clinical staff. This is reflected in pricing, and it is the reason our patients see natural, permanent results.

Treatment Area

Different treatment areas require different graft counts and levels of surgical precision. Hairline design demands the finest, single-hair grafts placed at exact angles to look natural. Crown restoration requires multi-follicular grafts placed densely across a wider surface area. Beard and eyebrow transplants are specialist procedures with their own technique demands. Pricing varies by area, as covered in the sections below.

How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost by Treatment Area?

Hairline Hair Transplant Cost

A hairline hair transplant typically costs between £4,500 and £5,500. Smaller hairline restorations at the lower end cover the central hairline only. More extensive work extending into the temples falls toward the higher end. Hairline surgery is technically demanding because the front row of grafts uses single-hair follicles placed at a very shallow angle to replicate a natural hairline. This precision is why surgeon skill matters more here than in any other area.

Crown Hair Transplant Cost

A crown hair transplant typically costs between £4,500 and £6,500. A small to moderate crown patch sits at the lower end. Larger crowns that extend into the mid-scalp bridge fall toward the higher end. Crown restoration requires denser graft placement across a curved surface to avoid a visible pattern, which increases both graft count and procedural complexity.

Beard Transplant Cost

A beard transplant typically costs between £3,500 and £6,500. Smaller patches such as filling a scar or adding density to part of one cheek are at the lower end. Full two-cheek beard construction, which covers a large surface area with several hundred grafts per cheek, falls toward the higher end. The procedure uses the same FUE extraction technique, with grafts taken from the scalp donor area and placed at angles that match natural beard growth direction.

Eyebrow Transplant Cost

An eyebrow transplant typically costs around £3,500 to £4,500. Eyebrows require a relatively small number of grafts, usually 200 to 600 per brow, but the procedure is technically precise. Eyebrow follicles grow at an extremely flat angle and must follow the natural brow curve exactly, which requires careful surgical placement.

Hair Transplant Cost by Number of Grafts

The table below gives our standard pricing by graft count. Your exact graft number is confirmed at your free consultation after a clinical assessment of your scalp and donor area.

Grafts Typical Use Case Approximate Cost
500 grafts Small eyebrow transplant, scar repair, hairline touch-up £3,000 to £3,500
1,000 grafts Large eyebrow transplant, small beard patch, small temple recession £4,000 to £4,500
1,500 grafts Fuller hairline, moderate beard transplant £4,500 to £5,000
2,000 grafts Receding hairline or crown restoration (most common) £5,500 to £6,000
2,500 grafts Multiple areas, larger surface coverage with density £6,000 to £6,500
3,000 grafts Full frontal and mid-scalp, maximum single session £6,500 to £7,000
4,000 grafts Extensive loss, performed across two sessions £9,500 to £10,000
5,000 grafts Substantial scalp coverage, performed across two sessions £11,000 to £12,000

Per-graft pricing: As a general guide, FUE grafts are priced at around £1.89 to £3.99 per graft. The cost per graft typically decreases at higher volumes, which is why larger procedures do not scale linearly in price.

We recommend a maximum of 3,000 grafts per single session to protect the donor area, avoid overharvesting, and give the scalp adequate time to heal. Procedures above 3,000 grafts are staged across two sessions spaced at least six months apart.

Cost by Procedure Type

There are three main techniques used at Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic, and the choice of method influences both the result and the price.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE is the gold standard for hair restoration and accounts for the majority of procedures performed in the UK. Individual follicular units are extracted from the donor area using a small circular punch tool and then implanted into the thinning zones. There is no linear scar, recovery is faster than FUT, and results are natural across all hair types.

FUE pricing at Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic ranges from approximately £3,500 to £7,000, depending on graft count. The cost per follicle runs from around £1.89 to £3.99.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

FUT involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area, dissecting it into individual grafts, and implanting those grafts into the recipient zone. It is a less common technique today. While FUT can be a lower-cost option, it leaves a permanent linear scar at the back of the scalp and has a longer recovery time. Pricing starts from around £4,000. We do not routinely recommend FUT due to the scarring, but it may suit specific cases and is available on request.

Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)

DHI is a refinement of the FUE technique. Instead of creating channels in the recipient area before graft placement, DHI uses a specialised implanter pen to extract and implant each follicle in a single step. This allows for greater control over placement angle and depth, which can improve density in certain areas. DHI pricing is typically in the region of £6,000, with a per-follicle cost of around £2 to £6, reflecting the higher level of precision and time involved.

UK Hair Transplant vs Turkey: What Does the Price Difference Actually Mean?

It is common for patients in Manchester and across the UK to research hair transplants in Turkey, where prices can appear significantly lower, sometimes as little as £1,500 to £3,000 all-in. Understanding what drives that price difference is important before making a decision.

Why Overseas Prices Are Lower

Lower costs abroad typically reflect lower overheads, lower surgeon wages, and in some cases, lower standards of care. The ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) has reported that a substantial proportion of its members regularly perform corrective procedures on patients who had surgery at unaccredited or low-quality clinics, many of them abroad. Common problems include visible scarring from overharvesting the donor area, unnatural hairline placement, grafts placed at the wrong angle, and insufficient density because too few grafts were used.

A corrective procedure in the UK after a poor result abroad adds significantly to the total cost you end up spending, and not every poor result can be fully corrected.

What UK Regulation Means for You

Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic operates as a CQC-registered clinic. Our surgeons hold full GMC registration. These are legal requirements in the UK, not optional credentials. CQC registration means the clinic is inspected against set safety and quality standards. GMC registration means every surgeon has met the requirements of the UK’s medical regulator and can be held accountable for patient outcomes.

Overseas clinics, including many in Turkey, operate under different regulatory frameworks. Some are excellent. Many are not verifiable to the same standard. You cannot easily check a Turkish clinic’s equivalent of a CQC inspection record or a GMC register entry before booking.

The True Cost Comparison

A UK hair transplant at £5,500 performed by a GMC-registered surgeon at a CQC-registered clinic, with full pre and post-operative care and follow-up appointments included, is a different product from a £2,000 package that includes flights and accommodation but whose surgeon credentials are unverifiable. The meaningful comparison is outcomes, not headline prices.

If budget is the primary concern, speak to us about finance options. Spreading the cost of a quality UK procedure is a better route than risking a result that may require expensive correction.

Can I Get a Hair Transplant on the NHS?

No. The NHS does not fund hair transplant surgery for male or female pattern hair loss. Hair transplantation is classified as a cosmetic procedure under NHS guidelines, and it is not available through the public healthcare system for genetic hair loss.

There are limited exceptions in specific clinical cases, such as hair loss caused by burns, scalp injury, or certain medical conditions. If you believe your hair loss may have a medical cause that qualifies for NHS consideration, your GP is the correct first point of contact. For the vast majority of patients seeking a hair transplant for male pattern baldness, the procedure is privately funded.

Finance options are available at Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic to help make the cost more manageable. See the section below.

Hair Transplant Finance Options

We understand that the upfront cost of a hair transplant is a significant consideration. Monthly payment plans are available through our finance partner, allowing you to spread the cost of your procedure over a period that suits your budget.

Finance options include interest-bearing and interest-free plans, subject to approval. The terms available to you, including monthly payment amounts, are discussed at your consultation once we have a confirmed graft count and a final price.

To find out more about the finance options available, visit our hair transplant finance page or ask at your free consultation.

Your Free Consultation: What to Expect

Getting an accurate price for your hair transplant starts with a consultation. This is free, there is no obligation to book surgery, and it typically takes around 45 minutes.

Scalp and Donor Assessment

The surgeon examines your scalp under magnification, measures the density of your donor area (the back and sides of the scalp), and grades your hair loss pattern using the Norwood Scale. This gives a precise estimate of how many grafts are available and how many you need.

Hair Loss History

We discuss when you first noticed thinning, how quickly it has progressed, and whether hair loss is still active. This is important because transplanting into an area that is still thinning aggressively can lead to an uneven result as surrounding native hair continues to fall. We may recommend stabilising medications alongside surgery in some cases.

Your Goals and a Treatment Plan

The surgeon discusses what you want to achieve and maps out an approach. You receive a personalised graft count estimate, a price, and a clear explanation of what the procedure involves. There is no pressure to decide on the day.

Booking Your Procedure

If you decide to proceed, we confirm your surgery date and provide written pre-operative instructions. A deposit secures your date.

Our clinic is based in Manchester city centre, easily accessible from Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Prestwich, Altrincham, and Worsley. Contact us to book your free consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Transplant Costs

500 grafts are typically on the lower end of the scale and are usually for very small eyebrow transplants as well as small scar transplants. The cost is usually around £3,000 to £3,500 depending on the amount of work involved.

1,000 grafts are typically used for large eyebrow transplants or a small patch on the beard or a small area on the temples. The price for this is £4,000 to £4,500.

This method ensures optimal results while prioritising the patient’s wellbeing and providing adequate time for the donor area to heal. The cost typically falls between £11,000 and £12,000.

Graft count is the main factor but not the only one. The treatment area, the technique used (FUE, DHI, or FUT), and the complexity of the hairline design also affect the final price. Your consultation produces a precise quote based on your individual assessment.

No. Hair transplants for male or female pattern baldness are not funded by the NHS and are considered a cosmetic procedure. The cost must be privately funded. Finance options are available at Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic to help spread the cost.

Lower overseas prices usually reflect lower overheads, different regulatory standards, and in some cases technician-led rather than surgeon-led procedures. UK clinics are regulated by the CQC and all surgeons must be GMC-registered. These standards add to costs but also protect patient safety. Corrective procedures after poor results abroad are common and expensive, often costing more in total than a quality UK procedure would have.

FUE is generally slightly less expensive than DHI. FUE prices at Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic range from approximately £3,500 to £7,000 depending on graft count. DHI, which uses a specialised implanter for greater precision, is typically around £6,000. Your surgeon will advise which technique is most appropriate for your case at consultation.

No. The price agreed at your consultation covers the consultation itself (which is free), surgery, anaesthetic, all consumables, your post-operative care pack, follow-up appointments, and ongoing support. There are no hidden charges added on surgery day.
