Hairline Hair Transplant Manchester
At the Manchester hair transplant clinic, we cater to all types of hair transplants. The hairline hair transplant is one of the most popular surgeries we offer. On this page, you will find everything you need to know about the hairline hair transplant: the procedure, aftercare, cost, and its suitability for men and women.
Overview
Hairline hair transplant surgery is a popular procedure for patients in the early stages of androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). This hair transplant procedure helps tackle the hairline area at the front of the head and often is used to treat temple recession or people with naturally high hairlines. At the Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic, men and women are suitable for this type of hair transplant surgery.
What is the Hairline Hair Transplant?
The hairline hair transplant is one of the most popular hair transplant options that patients choose to have with us at our hair loss clinic in Manchester.
A hairline hair transplant aims to treat patients who have a naturally high hairline or are suffering from a condition called male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia). The surgery looks to take hair follicles from the back and sides of the head and transplant them into the hairline and temple area.
In some cases, a hairline hair transplant also refers to cases where the hairline area is lowered, shortening the distance between the hairline and the eyebrows. This does tend to be more common in female patients.
Three types of surgical methods can be used to fix a hairline area: FUE hair transplant, FUT hair transplant, and DHI hair transplant. More information on each of these hair loss treatments is provided below.
Who Can Have a Hairline Hair Transplant at the Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic?
At the Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic, hairline hair transplants are available for men, women, and transgender patients.
For men, a hairline hair transplant surgery is usually chosen by patients on stage 2 or 3 of the Hamilton-Norwood Scale. This would be categorised as low-to-medium stages of pattern hair loss that has not affected the crown area.
If a patient suffers from extensive baldness on the crown, then a two-stage procedure (essentially a separate hairline and crown transplant) would need to take place. In most cases, the hairline is usually the area tackled first.
Women who come to our clinic in Manchester usually want surgery as they have a naturally high hairline from birth. In these cases, a hairline hair transplant is often a viable option. Especially, given no hair loss condition is present in these cases which negates chances of hair loss or hair thinning after the surgery.
A female hairline hair transplant would look to lower the hairline and blend this new hair seamlessly into the existing hairline.
We also provide hairline hair transplants for MTF transgender patients at the Manchester hair loss clinic. In transgender cases, a patient may have suffered from male pattern baldness before their transition, leaving a typically “masculine” looking hairline.
In this instance, a hairline hair transplant would look to “feminise” the appearance of the hairline, filling in any signs of temple recession and reshaping the hairline.
What Surgery Methods Does the Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic Offer?
At the Manchester hair loss clinic, we offer three surgical methods for patients. Over the last couple of decades, several hair restoration treatments have been developed and used for hairlines. Here are the most common three surgical options:
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
The FUE hair transplant is the most popular surgical method offered today. This method looks to take donor hairs individually from the back and sides of your head and implant them, one by one, into your hairline area.
One of the benefits of an FUE hairline transplant (Manchester) is that it boasts a quick recovery time and leaves minimal scarring after the procedure. This means you can get back to daily life quickly and your FUE hair transplant will have caused minimal disruption to those with busier lives.
At the Manchester hair transplant clinic, the FUE hair transplant procedure is performed by a GMC-registered doctor in a CQC-registered clinic. This ensures your hair loss surgery is performed in a clean environment by a safe pair of hands!
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI)
The DHI method is the premium option when it comes to hair restoration treatments. Similar to FUE, this surgical method extracts your hair follicles from the back and sides of your head and implants them into the hairline area.
The main difference is in the tool used during surgery. Thanks to the use of a CHOI pen, the time taken between extraction and implantation is almost simultaneous. Whereas FUE and FUT require an “incision phase”, this is not needed with DHI.
The benefit of this is that a DHI hairline transplant (Manchester) is minimally invasive and boasts a slightly quicker recovery time and graft survival rate when compared to FUT and FUE.
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
Sometimes called the “strip method”, FUT is the oldest form of hair transplant and is only now used as an option for female and transgender patients who may prefer to keep their hair long post-surgery.
This method looks to take a strip of skin with hair from the back of the head and use these for transplantation. This method does leave a linear scar on the back of the scalp.
How Does an FUE Hairline Hair Transplant Procedure Work?
During a hairline hair transplant, the method used in almost all cases is called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUE hair transplants look to extract donor hairs individually before they are re-implanted into the receding hairline.
This hair transplant surgery costs a graft survival rate of 95-100%, fending off future hair loss for almost a decade – in some cases maybe even longer. As with any hair transplant, it is always recommended to continue with another chemical treatment like finasteride post-surgery.

FUE Hair Transplant: The Day of Your Procedure
Initial Consultation and Anaesthetic
On the day of your hair transplant at the Manchester hair transplant clinic, you will begin the day by meeting your hair transplant surgeon and technical team. After an initial consultation go over the final hairline design and and fill in your consent forms.
From here, you will have the back of your head shaved and will then be given a local anaesthetic. The benefit of using a local anaesthetic is that you will remain conscious for the procedure, but will not be able to feel any pain in the scalp area.
Extraction Phase
The “extraction phase” refers to the removal of the hair follicles from your donor area. Extraction is taken as evenly as possible from the back and sides of your head to avoid any sign of noticeable over-extraction of the donor area.
With most hairline surgeries, anywhere between 1800 to 2500 hair grafts are usually used during a hair transplant. This is, of course, dependent upon the size of the area we need to work on. A full count of the number of grafts used will be provided to you at the end of the surgery.
The extraction phase usually takes between 2-3 hours and will be where your transplantable hair follicles are extracted and prepped for re-implantation. The extraction is performed by our surgeon and usually one technician. Another technician will usually be on hand to separate your grafts into “singles”, “doubles”, and “triples”.
After the extraction phase, there will usually be a short lunch break before the incision and implantation phases begin.
Incision Phase
During the preimplantation phase, a series of small incisions are made by the surgeon to prep your recipient area for receiving grafts. On the hairline, incisions are usually made with a smaller implanting pen (usually between 0.7cm and 0.9mm).
Incisions are always made by the surgeon at the clinic in Nottingham. The aim here is to create a natural-looking hairline and requires an experienced pair of medically trained hands.
Implantation Phase
From here, your donor hairs will be implanted into your hairline area. The aim is to implant them evenly across your new hairline so the result is full and thick-looking. This will help ensure the best hairline possible. Once this phase is complete, you will then speak to your surgeon about your aftercare.
